Expanding Foreign Market Access Through Thai Bourse

Listing 28 new depositary receipts expands domestic trading options, but real market integration depends on sustained liquidity and seamless market-making. Local brokerages and custody providers must manage time-zone gaps, currency conversion mechanics, and underlying dividend pass-throughs efficiently to prevent tracking errors from eroding investor confidence.

For the bourse, bringing offshore blue chips and ETFs into local trading accounts helps keep domestic capital within the Thai financial ecosystem. The operational risk lies in uneven volume distribution. If trading concentrates heavily in a few high-profile names, secondary market liquidity for the remaining listings will dry up, making execution costly for institutional and retail traders alike.

Investment committees should monitor whether local depositary receipt liquidity offers a cost-effective alternative for regional asset rebalancing, or if direct offshore trading remains superior for larger ticket sizes.
